Hornets' nest, Silver
7,8 cm

Unusual pendant, made of unusual materials. I combined hand formed, pierced and soldered silver with a piece of specially treated... hornets' nest. Hornets and wasps make beautiful "paper" nests, with subtle stripes in all shades of brown, beige and sometimes even muted green and red (depending on what kind of plants they use to make their building material). Amazing wonder of Nature. Hornets' nests in their natural state are rather delicate and brittle, but I managed to develop a technique of making them relatively hard and slightly elastic, while still retaining wonderful, natural look and texture on the outer side.

Using silver and this tunnel-like piece of hornets' nest I constructed this interesting, three dimensional pendant. It's additionally adorned with two Baltic ambers ( 8 and 3 mm). I oxidized silver, and left it mat and black, highligting only ridges of the weird organic form, emerging from the nest...

Total leght of this pendant is 7,8 cm, including articulated bail with amber. It was made for Prezentacje competition and travelled for 2 years with post-competition exhibition.
It will be packed in a nice box. Certificate of uniqueness is included.

Recently I had a pleasure of taking part in an amazing project called „Cabinet of curiosities”, started and organized by Marta Norenberg.   My pendant „Lair of visions” was published in AMCAW calendar (Alliance for Metal Clay Arts Worldwide) for 2021.  This piece is made of sterling silver, milled sterling sheet, fine silver bezel wire, electroplated gold, three labradorites and two peridots. This pendant was hand sculpted using simple tools. No moulds. Every element was formed from scratch. It’s a combination of sculpting in wet clay, slip painting and dry contruction. Stone settings were soldered after firing. The bail was constructed from milled metal, combined with an ornamental element sculpted in metal clay - the elements were soldered together. This piece is a poetic reminiscence of my strolls and meditations in the forest. Forest and its gifts as a source of vision See more photos of this piece here.
